One-Stop Support Including Childcare, Providing Services with High Local Resident Satisfaction
Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do, has seen an increase in the number of births this year, surpassing the total number of births from last year.
According to the county on the 2nd, as of the end of last month, Haenam recorded a total of 217 births, an increase of 35 compared to the same period last year. This number exceeds last year's total of 216 births.
This result comes from a comprehensive overhaul of childbirth policies during the 8th local government administration, establishing customized projects for each stage of pregnancy, childbirth, and parenting, and actively implementing population policies best suited to the needs of local residents. To address the national issue of low birth rates, 4.1 billion KRW has been invested in 40 projects.
In August, Haenam-gun transformed the childbirth promotion organization overseeing childbirth policies into the Happy Childbirth One-Stop Support Center, providing one-stop service information from pregnancy through childbirth.
Once registered as a pregnant woman, individuals can easily receive guidance on pregnancy and childbirth support services at each stage through the Happy Childbirth One-Stop Support Center.
During the pregnancy stage, nine projects are implemented, including support for health check-up costs for prospective and newlywed couples, pregnancy and childbirth medical expenses, and support for infertility treatment costs for couples diagnosed with infertility.
Additionally, the county supplements government infertility treatment costs, which are normally provided only to low-income families, by allocating county funds to support all income levels regardless of income. It also operates the first pregnancy housekeeping care service in Jeollanam-do and runs the Nutrition Plus project to assist the healthy lifestyle of low-income pregnant women and infants.
To ensure healthy pregnancies lead to safe childbirth and parenting, 31 support projects are underway.
A 24-hour obstetrics and gynecology delivery service is operated to prevent difficulties in childbirth even at night. Since opening the first public postpartum care center in Jeollanam-do in 2015, over 1,800 mothers have used the facility.
Furthermore, support is provided for newborn care costs and diaper purchases for families with newborns. The county also actively promotes a childbirth-friendly social atmosphere and supports families through initiatives such as providing 1.5 million KRW for paternal parental leave, operating mother groups to share parenting information, and running postpartum health recovery projects for mothers.
The Ttangkkeut Family Harmony Center, opened in April, offers comprehensive parenting services, and from August, nighttime pediatric care has been promoted at local hospitals, strengthening the parenting infrastructure.
A county official stated, “In the nationwide trend of aging and population decline, population policies tailored to the needs of local residents are necessary. We will strive to supplement shortcomings in government policies and provide administrative services that yield high satisfaction among residents actually living in Haenam-gun.”
