SNS Announces Candidacy for General Election
"I Will Be a Righteous and Principled Politician"
Former Emergency Response Committee Chair of the Democratic Party of Korea, Park Ji-hyun, announced on the 2nd her intention to run for the Seoul Songpa-eul district in next year's general election, stating, "I promise once again to be a righteous and principled politician, not one who is merely scrambling to line up everywhere."
On the same day, Park posted on her social media (SNS), "During my time as the Emergency Response Committee Chair and while visiting various local areas, I promised to correct politics and listen more to the voices of the marginalized," adding, "I have had many long considerations ahead of the general election, but one thing was clear: my calling is to continue in politics until I am in the place where politics should be."
Regarding her decision to run in Seoul Songpa-eul, Park explained, "After careful consideration, I set three criteria." Songpa-eul is currently the constituency of Bae Hyun-jin from the People Power Party, and lawyer Song Ki-ho serves as the Democratic Party's local committee chair.
She said, "First, a place where my candidacy can help expand the Democratic Party; second, a place that can symbolically strike a blow against the arrogance of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration; and third, a place where residents are willing to choose change. I thought that place was Songpa."
She continued, "Just as I worked to protect numerous victims and women from the (digital sex crime) Nth Room case, I will engage in politics that protects the residents of Songpa-gu," and added, "I will soon greet you in the district not as former Emergency Response Committee Chair Park Ji-hyun, but as politician Park Ji-hyun."
