Sharing Cases of Remote Work During Holidays with Local Governments
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will hold a Workcation Promotion Seminar on the 2nd at the Ponae Fishing Village Experience and Recreation Village in Incheon. They will explore ways to promote remote work at vacation spots with local government officials.
Workcation is a compound word of Work and Vacation. It refers to a work style that allows people to work and take a vacation simultaneously at their desired location. The seminar will be attended by officials from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Korea Tourism Organization, Korea Culture and Tourism Institute, local governments, and regional tourism organizations. They will share domestic and international cases of remote work at vacation spots and discuss ways to expand participation and directions for project implementation. A Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism official explained, "This is the first occasion where officials who have been promoting projects individually by local governments gather to discuss development plans."
Remote work at vacation spots contributes to increasing the resident population and revitalizing the local economy. Local governments cannot help but show interest. Busan opened a remote work hub near Busan Station in February, Jeonbuk recently developed a product that includes the 'Jeonbuk Tour Pass 72-hour ticket,' and Gyeongbuk Province joined the competition by launching family-oriented products.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has been conducting a pilot project for remote work at vacation spots since August 29. Until the 30th of this month, participation fees will be supported for about 1,500 people on a first-come, first-served basis, and twenty specialized programs across sixteen regions nationwide will be offered. Companies, institutions, and sole proprietors wishing to participate can apply at the 'Korea Tourism Organization Workcation Theme Pavilion.' A Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism official said, "Employees of small and medium-sized enterprises can receive additional participation fee support from IBK Industrial Bank of Korea."
