Supporting the Development of the Design Industry Throughout This Year
First Lady Kim Keon-hee, wife of President Yoon Suk-yeol, attended the opening ceremony of 'Design Korea 2023' held at COEX in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, on the 1st, the presidential office announced.
Design Korea 2023 is a design industry expo aimed at promoting the excellence of 'K-Design' to the world, and it will be held for five days until the 5th.
Marking the 21st edition of Design Korea this year, the First Lady congratulated the opening and expressed her support for the development of the design industry.
Earlier, the First Lady showed interest in revitalizing the design industry and the global advancement of K-designers by attending the design community's New Year's gathering in January and visiting the 10th Gwangju Design Biennale last month.
Following the opening ceremony, she visited major exhibition halls to view products such as a robot vacuum cleaner for the visually impaired, benches made from recycled plastic materials, and packaging products upcycled from discarded firefighting suits.
In particular, the presidential office reported that the First Lady encouraged the next-generation designers who will lead the future of Korea's design industry by viewing innovative works by youth and university students, including a modular wheelchair accessible to both disabled and non-disabled people, a playground (Recycle Land) design that requires recyclables for use, and transportation cards featuring illustrations of the 12 zodiac animals.
