Busan Gijang-gun Participates in 'International Fisheries EXPO'... Supporting Local Businesses in Market Expansion

From the 1st to the 3rd, Busan's Gijang-gun will participate in the '2023 Busan International Fisheries EXPO (BISFE 2023)' held at BEXCO Exhibition Hall 1 in Haeundae to promote the excellence of Gijang seafood.

This event, hosted by Busan City and organized by BEXCO, the Korea Fisheries Trade Association, and the National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives, is the only fisheries-specialized expo in Korea, featuring participation from 388 companies across 22 countries and operating 1,190 booths.

The county is participating again this year, following last year, to externally promote outstanding local seafood such as seaweed, kelp, and anchovies, and to pioneer distribution channels for seafood processing companies.

This year’s event includes two local seafood processing companies selected through a recruitment announcement and the newly established 'Daebyeon Fishery Market' created through the seafood distribution facility construction project, participating jointly.

The Gijang-gun booth will participate under the theme "Exploring Gijang Dried Seafood: Hidden Gems," separately exhibiting representative products of small-scale seafood processing companies unable to attend the expo, providing promotional opportunities and actively supporting market expansion.

Jung Jong-bok, the head of Gijang-gun, said, "We promoted excellent Gijang seafood at the EXPO and supported the market development of local seafood companies," adding, "We hope this EXPO participation will serve as a catalyst to invigorate the local fisheries industry."

Joint participating companies include 'Pureun Gijang,' a producer, distributor, and processor of seaweed and kelp, and the village enterprise 'Gijang Fermentation Cooperative,' which developed Makgeolli using seaweed and kelp.

The former Daebyeon Port street vendors' 'Daebyeon Fishery Market' introduces a variety of high-quality and affordable dried seafood and provides leaflets to promote the newly renovated store.
