Emergency Culling of 60 Cattle at the Farm... Inspection Conducted at Nearby Farms
Lumpy skin disease has occurred at a Hanwoo farm in Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do.
According to Jeollanam-do on the 1st, suspected symptoms were found in a cow at a Hanwoo farm in Imji-myeon, Sinan-gun on the 30th of last month. After the first test and the final test by the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency, the result was positive.
It was confirmed that the cows at the farm had not been vaccinated.
The quarantine authorities urgently deployed an initial response team to control access to the farm and carry out disinfection. They set a 10 km quarantine zone around the area and are enforcing movement restrictions and disinfection measures.
Within the quarantine zone, it is understood that 1,878 Hanwoo cattle are being raised at 46 farms.
The quarantine authorities plan to urgently cull 60 cows raised at the affected farm. Clinical and PCR tests will also be conducted on 8 farms within 2 km of the area.
After the first case of lumpy skin disease occurred in the Jeollanam-do region in Muan on the 29th of last month, the province has supplied vaccines to all 22 cities and counties in the province and is conducting preventive vaccinations.
According to the Korea Animal Health Integrated System (KAHIS), the target livestock farms for vaccination in Jeollanam-do are 17,298 farms with 678,080 animals.
Meanwhile, as of 10 p.m. on the 30th of last month, 70 cases of lumpy skin disease have been reported nationwide. Gyeonggi has the highest number with 26 cases, followed by Chungnam with 24, Incheon 8, Gangwon 5, Jeonbuk 3, Jeonnam 2, and Chungbuk and Gyeongnam with 1 case each.
