Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that the "3rd Geumcheon Fashion Film Festival" will be held from November 3 to 6 at Lotte Cinema Gasan Digital Branch and the Mario·Cart Knit Factory.
The "Geumcheon Fashion Film Festival" is the first and only film festival in Korea with "fashion" as its theme. It is held to reexamine and promote the excellence of the fashion apparel industry, a specialized industry in the Geumcheon area.
This year’s festival presents various fashion-themed attractions divided into two spaces. Various opening events and special screenings will take place at the Mario·Cart Knit Factory, while the finalists’ films will be screened at Lotte Cinema Gasan Digital Branch.
A “fashion cultural event” held in a special clothing factory opened to the public for the first time in 54 years
The festival opening ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. on November 3 on the first floor of the Mario·Cart Knit Factory. The event will kick off with a "fashion show" by designer Lee Yong-beom of Wolgyesu Tailor Shop, featuring 50 models, and throughout the festival period, various performances and side events will be held.
Built in 1969, the Mario·Cart Knit Factory (90 Digital-ro 9-gil, Geumcheon-gu) will be opened to residents for the first time during the festival. This place, which holds the history of Geumcheon’s fashion and sewing industry, is one of the few remaining knit factories from the old Guro Industrial Complex era and has preserved its appearance from 54 years ago.
Meet 64 fashion films for free
Among the finalists, 41 films will be screened at Lotte Cinema Gasan Digital Branch, while 23 special screenings?including the opening film, 9 official invited films, and 13 past award-winning films?will be shown at the Mario·Cart Knit Factory.
This year, a total of 1,574 films were submitted, a 72% increase from last year’s 912 entries. The 41 finalists were selected through fierce competition.
The finalists include many works that explore fashion through color or tell stories using unique costumes and props. Films featuring actors familiar to the public also attract attention. Director Jung Tae-sung’s "Runway" stars actress Kim Cheong and tells a story about senior models, while director Choi Soo-hyuk’s "Upbo" features actor Um Tae-goo and deals with the story of the King of the Underworld alongside dazzling costumes.
There are also films themed around the "Guro Industrial Complex." Director Go Chan-ho’s "Assa Gaori" is a documentary about sewing workers during the Guro Industrial Complex era.
Highlighting Geumcheon’s stories through film
The opening film is director Choi Yoo-jin’s documentary "Lee Yoanna." "Lee Yoanna" is the real name of artist Lee Yoanna, a pattern illustrator living in Geumcheon-gu. The film highlights the story of a young designer expanding her creative activities related to various products, films, and clothing by broadening the concept of "patterns."
Audience members wishing to watch the finalists’ films can reserve free seats on-site at Lotte Cinema Gasan Digital Branch from November 4 to 5. Special screenings and various cultural events at the Mario·Cart Knit Factory can be freely attended by anyone without separate reservations.
Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, “We have prepared not only films but also various events such as fashion shows and music performances so that people can uniquely enjoy Geumcheon’s specialized fashion and sewing industry. We hope everyone has a great time.”
