Yangcheon-gu Conducts Survey on Single-Person Households to Prevent Social Isolation

Yangcheon-gu Conducts Survey on Single-Person Households to Prevent Social Isolation

Yangcheon-gu (District Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced that it will conduct a survey on socially isolated single-person households living in vulnerable residential areas until January next year.

There are 58,326 single-person households in Yangcheon-gu, accounting for 32.2% of the total population of the district. Accordingly, the district has prepared this survey to increase the accuracy of identifying isolated households by conducting it alongside the year-round ongoing welfare blind spot discovery survey using crisis information big data, and to secure a higher response rate with a simplified form.

The survey targets include 4,143 households: ▲2,695 middle-aged single-person households living in vulnerable residential areas identified through crisis information big data ▲839 households that refused the 2022 survey on socially isolated single-person households ▲609 households identified as at risk of solitary death through the 2021?2022 surveys.

All public officials at the 18 neighborhood community centers will visit the households directly to check living conditions such as housing status, health, and economic situation, and whether support is needed. In addition to the visiting survey, residents who wish to participate can visit their local neighborhood community center for consultation.

The survey uses the ‘Single-Person Household Survey Form’ to assess feelings of failure and loss, isolated daily life, and social isolation, classifying solitary death risk groups into ‘high-risk, medium-risk, low-risk, and not applicable’ categories.

For solitary death risk groups identified through the survey, the district plans to continuously manage them by linking and distributing services such as Our Neighborhood Care Team, Artificial Intelligence (AI) check-in services, and smart plugs. Even those classified as non-risk groups will be provided with welfare services corresponding to the risk group upon their request.

Meanwhile, last year’s survey identified 609 solitary death risk households and provided a total of 809 customized welfare services, including public benefits and check-in services.

Lee Gi-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, said, “I hope this survey will serve as an opportunity to actively identify those in need of help, and we will continue to do our best to build a dense welfare safety net to ensure that no residents are left behind.”
