Yemeni Rebels Admit Israel Drone Attack... Increasing Involvement of Iran-Supported Armed Groups

Drone Intrusion Attempt in the Eilat Area of Israel

The Houthi rebels in Yemen, supported by Iran, have admitted to carrying out a drone attack against Israel. This means that the number of Iran-backed Islamic militant groups attacking Israel has increased.

According to AFP on the 31st (local time), the Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for the attempted drone infiltration that occurred in the Eilat area in southeastern Israel on the same day.

Abdelaziz bin Habtour, appointed as the prime minister of the government led by the Houthi rebels in 2016, claimed responsibility when asked about the identity of the drones that attempted to infiltrate Eilat, Israel, saying, "Those drones are from Yemen."

He added, "The Houthis captured the capital Sana'a in 2014 and currently govern much of the country. We are fighting as part of the anti-Israel 'Axis of Resistance' using drones and other means."

In Eilat, located east of the Sinai Peninsula where the borders of Egypt, Israel, and Jordan meet, there was also an attempted missile and drone attack on the 27th.

At that time, the missile heading toward Eilat was intercepted by the United States and Saudi Arabia, and the drone crashed on the Egyptian side. Six Egyptians were injured by the drone debris. The Israeli military investigated the Houthis as the perpetrators behind the attack.

The involvement of Iran-backed, anti-American and anti-Israel Middle Eastern militant groups in the war is gradually increasing. The Lebanese militant group Hezbollah has attacked northern Israeli border areas with rockets, mortars, and anti-tank missiles since the early stages of the war. Israel retaliated against Hezbollah bases in southern Lebanon with artillery, drones, and fighter jets.

Additionally, rockets were fired several times from Syria toward the northern Golan Heights, occupied by Israel. However, neither the Syrian government nor the pro-Iranian militias in Syria have made official statements regarding this.

Shiite militias in Iraq, the Bashar al-Assad regime in Syria, the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, and the Yemeni Houthi rebels are representative anti-American and anti-Israel forces supported by Iran, along with the Palestinian militant group Hamas. They call themselves the 'Axis of Resistance,' but the West and Israel refer to them as the 'Axis of Evil' or 'Iranian proxies.'
