Seems to be lifting disciplinary actions through Daesamyeon, preparing for next year's general election
People Power Party to discuss successor Supreme Council member and others on the 2nd of next month
After various controversial remarks, Kim Jaewon, a Supreme Council member of the People Power Party who was suspended from party membership for one year by the party's Ethics Committee, voluntarily resigned.
A People Power Party official said in a phone call on the 31st, "Supreme Council member Kim has submitted his resignation letter," adding, "It is understood that the resignation will be accepted without any special resolution process."
Kim was disciplined by the Ethics Committee on May 10. At that time, former Supreme Council member Tae Young-ho, who was also subject to disciplinary action by the Ethics Committee, resigned from the Supreme Council before the review and was only suspended from party membership for three months. However, Kim refused to resign. Because of this, the political circles see the difference in the level of discipline despite similar controversies.

Kim caused controversies such as saying, "Pastor Jeon Gwang-hoon unified the right-wing camp," and "'Presidential candidate Yoon Seok-yeol's remark about including the spirit of the May 18 Democratization Movement in the preamble of the constitution was just to gain votes during the election."
Kim's sudden submission of his resignation letter appears to be a response to In Yo-han, the Innovation Committee Chairman of the People Power Party, proposing a general amnesty as the first innovation agenda. If the suspension of party membership is lifted, Kim would have to return to the party's Supreme Council, but it seems he voluntarily resigned to avoid causing such concerns for the party leadership. Additionally, with the disciplinary action concluded, Kim now has the opportunity to run in next year's general election.
A party official explained, "Since a vacancy in the Supreme Council has arisen, it is expected that there will be discussions related to this issue at the meeting on the 2nd of next month."
