Yeongju City Council Operates 'Youth Council Classroom' with Gaheung Elementary School

The First Step to Strengthen Youth Democratic Citizenship Competencies and Establish a Culture of Debate

The Yeongju City Council of Gyeongbuk (Chairman Sim Jae-yeon) operated the '2023 Yeongju City Youth Council Visiting Classroom' program on October 31 for a total of 28 students from Class 3, Grade 5 at Gaheung Elementary School.

Now in its fourth year, the Youth Council Classroom is designed to strengthen students' capabilities as democratic citizens and their student self-governance skills by having them experience legislative activities. Students are assigned roles such as temporary chairperson, secretary, and council member, participate in chairperson elections, present agenda items, and engage in pro and con debates.


The program included ▲opening ceremony ▲one-day youth council member oath ▲chairperson election ▲agenda presentation and pro/con debate ▲agenda voting ▲quiz time ▲and a conversation with council members.


The agenda handled by the one-day youth council members on this day was a single ordinance regarding the installation of nets at the Park Golf Course in Seocheon Dunchi, Yeongju.


The Gaheung Elementary School students who participated in the event expressed their thoughts, saying, "We are grateful to the council members who attentively listened to today's agenda debate, and from this experience, we think we will be able to coordinate and resolve issues well when discussing problems in the future."
