Geumcheon-gu Honors ‘Siheung Haenggung-gil’ Road Name Reflecting King Jeongjo's Filial Piety

To Honor King Jeongjo's Benevolence and Filial Piety, 'Ginkgo Tree' Designated as Honorary Road Name Throughout the Entire Section
'Siheung Haenggung-gil' in Buyeo

Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that the honorary road name "Siheung Haenggung-gil" has been designated for "Eunhaengnamu-ro."

"Eunhaengnamu-ro" was the main road leading to "Siheung Haenggung," where King Jeongjo stayed during his royal procession to the tomb of his father, Crown Prince Sado. Every year, the largest royal procession event in Korea, the "Joint Reenactment of King Jeongjo's Royal Procession," is held here.

King Jeongjo was a representative benevolent monarch of the late Joseon Dynasty who made 66 royal processions during his reign and handled 3,355 petitions and remonstrances.

To honor King Jeongjo's spirit of benevolence and filial piety, Geumcheon-gu designated the entire section of Eunhaengnamu-ro (from Baeksan Gas Station to Siheung 5-dong Community Center, approximately 579 meters) with the honorary road name "Siheung Haenggung-gil."

Additionally, to help residents participating in traditional events meaningfully remember the historical significance of Siheung Haenggung, informational signs explaining the origin of the honorary road name were installed at both the starting and ending points.

An honorary road name is a nickname given to a road section considering the social contributions and public interest of individuals or organizations and is not an official legal road name. Currently, there are a total of 77 honorary road names in Seoul, and Siheung Haenggung-gil is the first honorary road name in Geumcheon-gu.

Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, stated, "We will follow King Jeongjo's spirit of benevolence, who directly cared for and communicated with the people and encouraged filial piety, by actively administering for the convenience of residents. We will also continue to promote the historical relationship between Geumcheon-gu and King Jeongjo."
