"Promoting Chilgok-gun, the city of national defense, is equivalent to protecting the Republic of Korea. As a promotional ambassador, I dedicate my dog tag to Chilgok."
Broadcaster Choi Young-jae (41), who is active as a master on the military entertainment program 'Steel Troops 3,' has been appointed as a promotional ambassador to promote Chilgok-gun, the site of the largest battle of the Korean War.
Kim Jae-wook, the governor of Chilgok County, is taking a commemorative photo after presenting a certificate of appointment as a promotional ambassador to Mr. Choi Young-jae (right) in front of the statue of General Baek Seon-yeop.
To emphasize the significance of the promotional ambassador, Chilgok-gun held the appointment ceremony in front of the statue of General Baek Seon-yeop at the Dabudong Battle Memorial Hall and presented the appointment letter.
Mr. Choi, determined as the promotional ambassador representing the patriotic city of Korea, read the oath. He also created a frame using his dog tag, which he had carefully kept since his active duty days, believing that promoting Chilgok-gun enhances the value of national defense, and presented it to Kim Jae-wook, the governor of Chilgok-gun.
On the 28th, Governor Kim displayed the dog tag frame presented by Mr. Choi at the entrance of the governor's office so that employees and visitors could easily see it. For the next two years, Mr. Choi will serve as a bridge to promote not only Chilgok-gun’s identity as a patriotic city but also its culture, tourism, and military administration.
Chilgok-gun appointed Mr. Choi as a promotional ambassador due to his background as a former special forces officer, his military-related broadcasts and activities, as well as his connection with Chilgok-gun.
The special bond between Mr. Choi and Chilgok-gun dates back more than 20 years. Living in Dongmyeong-myeon, Chilgok-gun, Mr. Choi visited the Dabudong Battle Memorial Hall near his home and nurtured his dream of serving the country as a soldier. Mr. Choi’s father, Choi Sang-yeol, serves as the head of Giseong 1-ri, Dongmyeong-myeon, Chilgok-gun, and he welcomed the news of his son’s appointment as a promotional ambassador more than anyone else.
Mr. Choi said, "It is a great personal honor to become a promotional ambassador for the patriotic city as a former officer. I want to raise the fading value of national defense by promoting Chilgok-gun’s patriotic stories, infrastructure, and its pristine environment," expressing his aspirations as a promotional ambassador.
Governor Kim said, "Choi Young-jae’s military background and activities, as well as his upright character and appearance, fit well with the image of Chilgok-gun. He has dedicated his dog tag, which is like a soldier’s life, to Chilgok."
Mr. Choi enlisted as a commissioned officer in 2005 and carried out various special operations for nine years. After discharge, he worked as a bodyguard, then ran a business, and recently entered the broadcasting industry. Last year, he was appointed as an invited professor in the Department of Military Science at Gyeongbuk Professional College in Yeongju, Gyeongbuk, and this year, he was appointed as a special professor in the Department of Military Science at International University in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi-do.
