Sharing Small Private Building Parking Spaces Such as Houses, Villas, and Commercial Buildings as Shared Parking Lots
▲Share parking spaces during idle times via smartphone app for paid use by other drivers
▲70% of shared parking revenue paid to residents providing parking spaces
Jung-gu, Seoul (Mayor Kim Gil-seong) is taking steps to solve local parking difficulties together with residents. The district is recruiting participants for the ‘Our Neighborhood Shared Parking Lot’ program, which utilizes idle parking spaces in small-scale private buildings.
This expands the parking sharing project, which was previously focused on medium- and large-sized attached parking lots, to include small-scale attached parking lots such as those in houses, villas, and commercial buildings. It is expected to help alleviate parking difficulties by increasing available parking spaces in each neighborhood.
‘Our Neighborhood Shared Parking Lot’ allows parking space owners to share their parking spots via a smartphone app during times they are not using them, enabling other drivers to use the spaces for a fee. Seventy percent of the total revenue generated from shared parking is paid to the residents providing the parking spaces. Parking space owners can smartly invest by sharing their spaces during idle times.
Building owners and tenants who wish to share parking spaces can apply by phone, visit, or email to the Parking Management Division of Jung-gu Office. After application submission, on-site verification will be conducted to select participants.
Due to the characteristics of the urban area, Jung-gu has found it difficult to secure new parking lot spaces, so it has been working to solve parking difficulties by signing shared parking agreements with institutions and companies and efficiently utilizing existing parking spaces.
Currently, through agreements, 12 attached parking lots with 370 spaces are provided to residents, and starting from October, 45 spaces in the ‘Shinsegae Namsan’ attached parking lot are being used as a publicly accessible parking lot.
Kim Gil-seong, Mayor of Jung-gu, stated, “We hope for the interest and participation of many residents so that the shared parking space project can achieve results. We will continue to actively work to expand shared parking lots while promoting the construction of additional public parking lots linked to development projects to solve the shortage of parking spaces.”
