'Eras Tour' Ticket Sales Significantly Impact Revenue
CNN: "First Billionaire Made Solely from Music and Performances"
American pop star Taylor Swift (34) has officially become a billionaire.
According to Bloomberg on the 27th (local time), Swift officially appeared on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, which ranks the world's wealthiest individuals, on the 26th. Bloomberg estimated Swift's total net worth at $1.1 billion (1.4888 trillion KRW). This includes her ownership of five houses, concert ticket sales revenue, and album sales revenue.

In particular, the 'The Eras Tour' held from March to August this year greatly contributed to Swift's net worth. The tour, which performed in over 20 cities across the United States, generated a pre-tax revenue of $2.2 billion (2.9777 trillion KRW). The average ticket price for the Eras Tour was $254 (about 340,000 KRW), but scalped tickets were traded at much higher prices.
Bloomberg analyzed that Swift's 53 concerts in the U.S. this year contributed $4.3 billion (about 5.8244 trillion KRW) to the U.S. Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Additionally, since 2019, Swift's album sales revenue is estimated at $400 million, earnings from YouTube and other sources at $120 million, real estate at $100 million, and copyright income at $80 million.
CNN reported, "Swift is virtually the first to join the billionaire ranks solely through music and performances." Previously, singers Beyonc? and Rihanna became billionaires in 2017 and 2021 respectively, but they built their wealth not only through singing but also through other businesses such as cosmetics.
As spending at restaurants, hotels, and other venues increased wherever Swift's concerts were held, a new term 'Swiftonomics' emerged in the U.S. This word combines Taylor Alison Swift and economics, meaning that Swift's concerts have caused economic ripple effects. The term 'Taylornomics' is also used with the same meaning. CNN described this by saying, "Swift's popularity is a socio-economic phenomenon."
Swift's fortune is expected to continue growing. The concert tour live film 'Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour,' which was first released in North America on the 13th, is creating a box office sensation. The film earned $179 million (about 242.5 billion KRW) worldwide within ten days of its release and is scheduled to open domestically on the 3rd of next month. Additionally, the album '1989,' which sold over 10 million copies when released in 2014, is being re-released, and nearly 100 concerts remain to be performed.
