Gyeonggi-do Disaster Response Safety Korea Training Situation

On the 27th, Gyeonggi Province conducted the 'Disaster Response Safe Korea Drill' at Hyundai Motor Company's Uiwang Research Center located in Uiwang City, checking the on-site response system according to the disaster response manual and the cooperation system among related organizations.

The Safe Korea Drill is a practical training exercise designed to cultivate crisis response capabilities and review manuals by simulating actual disaster situations.

On this day, the drill assumed a disaster scenario where a fire broke out due to worker negligence during pipe welding work, causing a hydrofluoric acid leak.

Gyeonggi Province conducted the drill assuming that 100 liters of hazardous chemical (hydrofluoric acid) leaked due to combustion of nearby process battery packs, resulting in casualties (1 death, 6 serious injuries, 18 minor injuries) and property damage (half of the Production Technology Research and Development Building 2 destroyed).

Immediately after the accident, Gyeonggi Province jointly conducted on-site response training such as accident reporting, worker evacuation, fire suppression, and hazardous chemical removal with 19 organizations and groups including Uiwang City, police, fire department, Korea Electric Power Corporation, and the Korean Red Cross, while simultaneously operating the Gyeonggi Province Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters.

Oh Byeong-kwon, the First Deputy Governor of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "Recent disasters are complex and diverse, so it is more important than anything to quickly manage and recover through public-private-military cooperation when disasters occur," adding, "We will continue to create a safer Gyeonggi Province by reflecting shortcomings in the manual through drills similar to actual situations."
