On the 27th, the Ministry of Justice held a ceremony commemorating the '78th Correctional Day' at the underground auditorium of the Government Gwacheon Complex and awarded correctional administration merit recipients.
Kim Cheol-hwan, a correctional commissioner at Anyang Prison, who signed employment agreements with 110 inmates about to be released over the past 28 years and employed 75 of them in his own company, helping their healthy reintegration into society, received the Order of Civil Merit, Dongbaekjang.
Kim Moon-tae, warden of Daejeon Prison, who contributed to solving issues such as the shortage of medical personnel by actively coordinating with related ministries to increase correctional staff by 156 and, during his tenure as warden of Gongju Prison, signed a business agreement with a local hospital to reduce inmate hospital escort time from one hour to 15 minutes, was awarded the Order of Service Merit, Hongjo Geunjeong Medal. In total, 40 correctional administration merit recipients were honored.
President Yoon Suk-yeol, in an encouraging video message, said, "Just as we honored 167 correctional officers who died in the line of duty during the Korean War to protect our country's freedom at the unveiling ceremony of the Loyalty Tower, I ask junior public officials to emulate the spirit of loyalty of their predecessors and do their best for the safety of the people."
The ceremony was attended by about 800 guests, including Han Dong-hoon, Minister of Justice, and Shin Yong-hae, Director of the Correctional Headquarters.
