Railway Corporation Opens Door for 'K-Rail' Entry into Vietnam

The Korea Rail Network Authority is gearing up to enter the Vietnamese local railway market based on the proven K-rail technology overseas.


On the 27th, the Rail Network Authority announced that the day before, Lim Jong-il, Vice President of the Rail Network Authority, met with Nguyen Danh Huy, Deputy Minister of the Vietnamese Ministry of Transport, to explore the entry of ‘K-rail’ into the Vietnamese market.

The Deputy Minister of the Vietnamese Ministry of Transport recently visited Korea with the purpose of benchmarking Korea’s advanced cases in the construction process of the Vietnam North-South (Hanoi~Ho Chi Minh) high-speed railway.


During the meeting with the Deputy Minister, Vice President Lim confirmed the interests of the ordering country regarding the upcoming ‘Vietnam North-South High-Speed Railway Project’.


They also shared mutual opinions on project promotion plans considering Vietnam’s railway operating environment and economic feasibility.


Above all, in the meeting, Vice President Lim introduced the case where the Rail Network Authority won a high-speed railway design service contract in Poland this year, actively appealing the Authority’s accumulated high-speed railway project management capabilities.


As a strategy to increase the possibility of winning the Vietnamese high-speed railway project, Vice President Lim promoted K-rail technologies such as the next-generation train control system (KTCS-2) based on LTE-R wireless communication technology and high-speed railway track technology, and also supported a site visit to the GTX construction site.


Vice President Lim said, “The meeting with the Deputy Minister of the Vietnamese Ministry of Transport was meaningful in that it was an opportunity for the Rail Network Authority to understand the local railway-related needs of Vietnam,” and added, “The Rail Network Authority plans to actively pursue winning the Vietnamese high-speed railway project so that many Korean companies can participate in the Vietnamese railway business in the future.”
