Cheon Haram, the chairman of the People Power Party's Suncheon Gap district in Jeonnam, criticized the Presidential Office's characterization of the Itaewon tragedy 1st anniversary memorial rally as a "political rally led by the opposition party," saying, "So what if the opposition leads it?"

On the 27th, in an interview with YTN Radio's "News King Park Ji-hoon," Cheon made this remark regarding President Yoon Seok-yeol's decision not to attend the memorial ceremony. He said, "Our political camps are too divided, and the president should not only prioritize Kim Han-gil, the chairman of the National Unity Committee, but it would be great if he could show a genuine step toward unity."

He continued, "Even if the opposition leader holds a rally led by the People Power Party, if it is meaningful to the public, they should be able to attend, and even if the opposition leads it, the president should be able to go and send a message for true political unity."

Cheon emphasized, "No matter how much the opposition is involved, if the president goes there, the opposition is completely overshadowed. What remains is only that the president comforted the bereaved families of the Itaewon tragedy," adding, "There is no need to worry at all about the fact that the opposition was involved."

He added, "Even if some opposition lawmakers boo the president, so what? Even if he is booed, comforting the bereaved families and visiting despite uncomfortable situations will earn more recognition for sincerity."
