Sejongpia, a 3D audio and video AI (artificial intelligence) semiconductor company, announced that it showcased world-class low-power sound-tracing technology at SEDEX 2023, the Semiconductor Exhibition held from the 25th to the 27th at COEX in Samseong-dong, Seoul.
Sejongpia is a fabless semiconductor company specializing in 3D audio and AI-based semiconductors, founded by Professor Park Woo-chan of Sejong University. The company has been recognized for its technological capabilities in the sound-tracing field, including being selected for the Ministry of SMEs and Startups’ “Super Gap Startup 1000+” program this year. Sound tracing is a technology that tracks the paths through which sound is transmitted in real time?such as reflection and transmission?between the sound source and the listener in a three-dimensional space. It can be implemented even when the positions of the sound source and listener change, offering excellent realism, and is gaining attention in fields such as ▲Metaverse ▲Extended Reality (XR)?Mixed Reality (MR) ▲Defense ▲Automotive ▲Gaming.
Existing sound-tracing technologies have limitations due to complex algorithms and large-scale computations, resulting in slow processing speeds and high power consumption. This made it difficult to apply them to small devices like smartphones or products with limited CPU (central processing unit) performance such as TVs. In contrast, Sejongpia significantly reduced power consumption to a level that can be implemented on mobile devices while maintaining audio quality by using a path-tracing algorithm-based approach.
The company stated, "In 2021, we also collaborated with a leading Chinese smartphone company," adding, "We have filed more than 10 domestic and international patents related to sound tracing and are currently discussing product integration with several global IT companies."
Park Woo-chan, CEO of Sejongpia, emphasized, "Starting with full-scale software supply, we aim to mass-produce our own IP chips that can be utilized in various fields such as smartphones, TVs, and automobiles," and added, "Through innovative research and development, we will grow into a global unicorn company."
