Top Domestic and International Experts Gather
Busan City will hold ‘BWB 2023: Target 2026 Blockchain Busan’ at Signiel Busan over two days on November 9 and 10.
This year’s BWB (Blockchain Week in Busan) event is organized to bring together top domestic and international experts to discuss the feasibility and concrete plans for building a ‘Blockchain City Busan.’
The event is co-hosted by Busan City, Busan Ilbo, and Maeil Business Newspaper, and jointly organized by Nons, JJ Global, and Bion Media.
‘Target 2026 Blockchain Busan’ is a vision announced by the city on September 21 along with the ‘Plan to Establish Busan Digital Asset Exchange,’ aiming to make Busan the world’s leading blockchain technology-based city by 2026.
On the first day of the event, November 9, the opening ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. with opening remarks from Busan Mayor Park Hyung-jun and others. The ‘Blockchain Doctrine,’ outlining the direction of ‘Blockchain City Busan,’ will be proclaimed, followed by a presentation from Kim Sang-min, Chair of the Busan Digital Asset Exchange Establishment Promotion Committee. About 100 domestic and international Web 3.0 companies will gather for the launch ceremony of the ‘Busan Blockchain Alliance (BBA).’
In the subsequent session, Dr. Rory Knight, Dean of Oxford Sa?d Business School, former Deputy Governor of the Swiss National Bank, current Investment Chair of the John Templeton Foundation, and Chairman of Oxford Metrics, along with Dr. Dimitrios Psarrakis, who participated in the drafting of the European Union’s (EU) digital asset legislation (MiCA), will hold a panel discussion presenting their views on the Korean government’s digital asset regulatory direction.
A detailed blueprint for building Blockchain City Busan will also be presented. Patrick Yoon, Head of Crypto.com Korea, will give a presentation on blockchain-based payment and financial systems. Professor Oh Hyun-ok of Hanyang University, who won the Best Innovation Award at the 2023 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), will explain blockchain-based digital IDs. Additionally, Kim Ji-yoon, CEO of DSRV, will present on central bank digital currencies (CBDCs), which have recently attracted significant attention.
With key venture capital (VC) evaluators from Korea Development Bank, Korea Venture Investment Corp., and BNK Financial Group present, several Web 3.0 companies will introduce their technologies and business models and propose ideas for building ‘Blockchain City Busan’ in a pitching session.
On November 10, global venture capital (VC) investment officers visiting Busan from overseas will hold a panel discussion on the theme ‘Global Web 3.0 Investment Ecosystem and Busan.’ Representatives of global mainnet projects in Korea will gather to discuss ‘Surviving as a Business Director in the Korean Crypto Market.’
Various sessions will also be held on the second day. Seo Dong-joo, a broadcaster and well-known U.S. attorney, will serve as the moderator for a panel discussion titled ‘From Port City to Cultural Community.’
Following this, Kim Yong-beom, CEO of Hashed Open Research and former Vice Chairman of the Financial Services Commission and First Vice Minister of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, will deliver a presentation titled ‘Suggestions for the Success of Target 2026 Blockchain Busan.’
Caroline Pham, Commissioner of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), will share opinions with Ha Byung-jin, Head of Legal Affairs at Hashed, on the topic ‘Digital Asset Regulatory Proposals for Innovation.’
Chairman Kim Sang-min stated, “This BWB 2023 will be an opportunity to preview how blockchain technology will transform Busan in the future and to gauge the future of blockchain technology ten years from now.”
Mayor Park Hyung-jun emphasized, “As announced in the vision at this BWB event, we will do our best to make Busan a global blockchain hub city and a first mover leading the world in the blockchain field by integrating finance and blockchain technology.”
