The groundbreaking ceremony for Goyang Ilsan Technovalley was held on the 26th. Participants are taking a commemorative photo after the ceremony.
Goyang Ilsan Technovalley, aimed at realizing the "Great Development of Northern Gyeonggi," a new growth engine of the Republic of Korea, broke ground on the 26th.
Goyang Ilsan Technovalley is a national advanced strategic industrial complex investing 850 billion KRW in an 872,000㎡ (approximately 260,000 pyeong) site in Daehwa and Beopgot-dong, Ilsanseo-gu, Goyang City, to attract innovative companies in the bio-medical, media-content, and advanced manufacturing sectors.
Gyeonggi Province previously established the "Northern Gyeonggi 10-Year Development Plan" in 2015, preparing a plan to create industrial sites such as the Northern Gyeonggi Technovalley to lead the growth of Northern Gyeonggi.
In 2016, site selection was conducted for seven areas in Northern Gyeonggi, and Goyang City, which has industrial, residential, transportation infrastructure, and global competitiveness, was finally selected.
Following the groundbreaking ceremony on this day, Gyeonggi Province plans to supply land by the end of 2024, carry out site development construction, and complete the project by 2026.
Goyang City not only hosts broadcasting and video facilities such as MBC, JTBC, EBS, and various studios but also has excellent medical human resources and infrastructure linked to six large hospitals including the National Cancer Center, making it an optimal location to attract industries in the media-content and bio-medical fields.
Oh Hu-seok, Deputy Governor for Administration of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "Utilizing the human resources, related industrial infrastructure, and excellent transportation accessibility that Goyang City possesses, we will develop Goyang Ilsan Technovalley into the 'most innovative space' that surpasses the Boston Bio Cluster in the United States, the world's number one bio cluster." He added, "Goyang Ilsan Technovalley is the first step toward the vision of the Northern Gyeonggi Special Self-Governing Province and the great development of Northern Gyeonggi."
