Ongoing Until December 15
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 27th that the pilot service of the 'Crowd Management System' will be conducted until December 15.
The Crowd Management System is a system established to predict crowd density risks based on mobile carriers' base station connection information and spatial information of the area. The Ministry of the Interior and Safety will operate the system on a pilot basis at 30 locations in five major cities including Seoul, Busan, and Daejeon among the selected priority management areas, and plans to launch the official service within the year after addressing system shortcomings.
Before the official launch of the Crowd Management System, the Ministry plans to operate a pilot application period in some areas to collect feedback from local government situation rooms and other responsible personnel who actually use the system, and to enhance the system's functions and performance to ensure operational stability.
Meanwhile, the priority management areas were selected through a demand survey of local governments and a review committee involving private experts, targeting nationwide crowd-dense areas including major risk zones such as Itaewon in Seoul and the Gimpo Gold Line, as well as festival areas.
Lee Yong-cheol, Director of the Safety Prevention Policy Office, stated, “The system was established for scientific disaster management to prevent a second Itaewon tragedy,” and added, “We will fully collect field opinions through this pilot operation and enhance the system’s stability and usability so that the Crowd Management System can be effectively utilized for crowd safety management on site.”
