Dobong-gu Presents Award Money to 'Breaking Hero' Kim Hong-yeol

Dobong-gu (Mayor Oh Eon-seok) announced on the 26th that it awarded prize money of 8 million KRW and encouragement money of 1 million KRW to Kim Hong-yeol, the silver medalist in breaking at the 19th Hangzhou Asian Games, and Lee Woo-sung, the coach of the Dobong-gu Office breaking team, respectively, at Dobong-gu Office.


Kim Hong-yeol, a member of the Dobong-gu Office breaking team, participated in the breaking event, which was adopted as an official event for the first time at the 19th Hangzhou Asian Games, and won a silver medal, becoming the inaugural medalist of the competition.


On the 22nd, he once again proved that he is the best player in the world beyond South Korea by winning the '2023 Red Bull BC One World Final,' the world's largest breaking competition held in Paris.


At the prize money presentation ceremony that day, Dobong-gu Mayor Oh Eon-seok encouraged Coach Lee Woo-sung and player Kim Hong-yeol by presenting prize money and bouquets. Kim Hong-yeol expressed his gratitude for the active support and encouragement by hanging the silver medal and champion belt he won around Mayor Oh Eon-seok's neck.


Mayor Oh Eon-seok of Dobong-gu said, "I am very proud of the Dobong-gu Office breaking team, which achieved a valuable silver medal at the Hangzhou Asian Games, where breaking was adopted as an official event for the first time," and added, "We promise to provide unwavering support so that good results can be achieved at the 2024 Paris Olympics to be held next year."


In response, Coach Lee Woo-sung said, "I am grateful to Dobong-gu for always providing active support to the Dobong-gu Office breaking team," and added, "I will continue to coach diligently to achieve good results."


Player Kim Hong-yeol replied, "I believe that I was able to achieve good results thanks to Dobong-gu's generous support and encouragement," and said, "As a member of the Dobong-gu Office breaking team, I will train with pride and strive to deliver good news again next year."


The district plans to also provide encouragement money of 1 million KRW to player Kwon Sung-hee, who could not attend the ceremony due to overseas competition schedules. Kwon Sung-hee ranked 5th in the women's division at the Hangzhou Asian Games.
