On the 26th, Buk-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced that it will hold the 'May First Neighborhood Flea Market' near the Pyeonghwa Bowling Alley in Junghung-dong, the target area of the university town-type urban regeneration New Deal project, in collaboration with Chonnam National University for two days from the 27th to the 28th.
The May First Neighborhood Flea Market is part of the university town-type urban regeneration New Deal project, which aims to revitalize the local commercial district by utilizing university assets. It was organized to support young entrepreneurs in developing sales channels and to promote the activation of urban regeneration areas.
Marking its third year, this event features booths where young entrepreneurs, May First Neighborhood food shops, and alley commercial district stores directly participate to promote various products. The Junghung 2-dong Residents' General Assembly and the Residents' Hanmadang Festival will also be held concurrently.
On the first day of the event, the 27th, various celebratory performances including busking, a film music festival, and performances by Chonnam National University clubs will take place from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., along with product promotion booths. Additionally, a spicy food eating contest will be held during the event to engage participants.
On the following day, from 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., the Junghung 2-dong Residents' General Assembly and the Residents' Hanmadang Festival will be held. Starting at 6 p.m., the Gandeutgol Film Festival will continue, introducing and screening three films produced with Junghung 2-dong residents participating as actors.
A Buk-gu official stated, "The urban regeneration project is a catalyst project aimed at laying the foundation for revitalizing the area with young people and local residents at its core." He added, "This event will serve as an opportunity to share tangible results of the university town-type urban regeneration New Deal project, which is nearing its final stage, and to solidify the foundation for resident-centered regeneration project implementation."
