At 10:10 AM on the 26th, Mayor Park Hyung-jun Visits Gaegum Comprehensive Social Welfare Center
Meets Welfare Facility Officials to Hear Various On-Site Opinions and Encourages Workers' Efforts
Park Hyung-jun, Mayor of Busan, will visit the “Gaegum Comprehensive Social Welfare Center” located in Gaegum-dong, Busanjin-gu at 10:10 a.m. on the 26th to have a time of communication on site.
The Gaegum Comprehensive Social Welfare Center is a complex facility that houses various types of social welfare facilities, including not only the welfare center itself but also a daycare center, a day care facility for the disabled, a local children’s center, senior citizen centers, and an experience center for elderly welfare equipment.
On this day, Mayor Park plans to listen to the difficulties faced by workers at various social welfare facilities and encourage the efforts of those who are always working on the front lines to promote the rights and welfare of socially vulnerable groups.
He will also receive explanations about the current operation status from facility officials, tour the facilities, discuss welfare issues, and meet program users and disabled individuals using the day care facility for the disabled to hear diverse opinions from the social welfare field.
Starting next year, Busan City is focusing on promoting policies to realize welfare for the vulnerable by providing stronger support for socially disadvantaged and vulnerable groups, as well as securing additional budgets to improve the treatment of social welfare workers.
To strengthen welfare for the vulnerable, the city plans to provide more substantial support for income, jobs, and care services for low-income individuals, the elderly, and the disabled, and to discover new policy targets such as family care and isolated or reclusive youth to ensure that no welfare blind spots occur by providing meticulous support.
In particular, by increasing the number of teachers at day care facilities for the disabled, the city will support the daily life and community adaptation activities of disabled individuals, thereby strengthening care services for socially vulnerable disabled people. It will also enhance welfare support for the vulnerable through increases in basic living security livelihood benefits, expansion of senior job opportunities, and extended care for people with developmental disabilities.
Additionally, the city plans to focus on improving the salary levels of social welfare workers who still face harsh working conditions, providing additional annual increases in overtime pay and welfare points to ensure practical improvements in their treatment.
Mayor Park Hyung-jun said, “I would like to express my gratitude to the welfare facility workers who serve as a protective barrier for vulnerable groups on the front lines of social welfare.” He added, “I ask for continuous efforts in the social welfare field so that residents will not be marginalized in their communities and that a warm community can be formed where people care for and look after each other.” He also stated, “The city will spare no support for care of the vulnerable, including the elderly and disabled in the social welfare sector, so that welfare for the vulnerable can be more substantial and meticulous, and future preparations can be more solid and thorough through field-centered communication administration.”
