Will Do Our Best for Eco-Friendly Transportation Policies"
Mapo-gu (District Mayor Park Kang-su) will launch the "Red Road Walking Campaign for the Proper Use of Two-Wheeled Vehicles (Personal Mobility Devices PM)" on the 27th at Hongdae Red Road.
According to the Seoul Traffic Information Center, as of last year, there are a total of 35,275 shared kickboards in Seoul, with an average monthly usage of 2.25 million rides. The usage of shared bicycles has also increased exponentially, growing fivefold compared to 2017.
Requests for towing shared kickboards or bicycles, safety accidents, and pedestrian safety hazard reports are also increasing. In particular, Mapo-gu, which borders the Han River the longest among Seoul districts, frequently uses electric kickboards and bicycles not only as means of transportation but also for leisure activities.
Accordingly, on the 6th, Mapo-gu held two working-level meetings with the Mapo Police Station Traffic Division and the Korea Transportation Safety Authority Seoul Headquarters, and announced that at 3 p.m. on the 27th, they will conduct the "Proper Two-Wheeled Vehicle Use Practice Campaign" at Hongdae Red Road, where many two-wheeled vehicle users gather.
About 50 people, including Park Kang-su, the Mayor of Mapo-gu, officials from Mapo-gu, Mapo Police Station, and the Korea Transportation Safety Authority Seoul Headquarters, will participate. The campaign will start at Red Road R4 (in front of Sangsangmadang) and proceed by walking to Red Road R2 (the plaza in front of the digital tourist information electronic display board).
On the day, the Mapo Police Station enforcement team will also conduct crackdowns and guidance activities regarding violations of two-wheeled vehicle regulations.
Mayor Park Kang-su said, "In the era of zero carbon emissions, the usage rate of two-wheeled vehicles such as bicycles and shared kickboards will inevitably increase. We ask both riders and pedestrians to follow the proper use methods so that everyone can live safely. Mapo-gu will also do its best to establish a safe pedestrian environment and expand eco-friendly transportation policies."
Meanwhile, the district explained that personal mobility devices (PM) such as kickboards and bicycles must comply with the Road Traffic Act regulations, including ▲wearing protective gear such as helmets ▲prohibition of riding on sidewalks ▲prohibition of exceeding passenger capacity ▲prohibition of drunk driving.
