On the 25th, Sunchang-gun, Jeonbuk announced that the "27th Sunchang Churyeong Jangseung Festival" will be held from the 28th to the 29th at Churyeong Jangseung Village in Seomari, Bokheung-myeon.
Organized by the Sunchang Churyeong Jangseung Festival Committee, this festival is a special event to widely promote the meaning of the local cultural icon Jangseung and to experience and enjoy our unique traditions and culture.
This event, where the charm, excitement, and affection of Bokheung-myeon come together, will feature Jangseung carving demonstrations, Nanta performances, daegeum (bamboo flute) performances, flute performances, belly dance, and a direct agricultural products market. Various hands-on programs such as Jangseung carving, kite flying, and sorghum broom weaving will also be operated.
On the second day of the event, the 29th, comedian Lee Yong-sik, well known as "Bbosik Uncle," is scheduled to visit the festival site and put on a surprise performance, promising unforgettable moments for visitors.
In particular, Churyeong Jangseung Village in Seomari, Bokheung-myeon, the event venue, is a specialized exhibition space displaying hundreds of Jangseung and Sotdae in various shapes. Located on the vast grounds of Churyeong with beautiful mountain scenery, visitors can view traditional creative works from all over the country as well as Jangseung and Sotdae from Africa, India, and other regions, making it a popular tourist attraction visited by many every year.
Park Yong-gil, chairman of the Sunchang Churyeong Jangseung Festival Committee, said, "We will continue to plan more diverse attractions and programs to do our best in widely promoting our fading traditional culture."
County Governor Choi Young-il stated, "I will provide wholehearted support so that the Churyeong Jangseung Festival, now in its 27th year, becomes a festival known nationwide and globally beyond a local event," and added, "I hope many visitors come to this year's Churyeong Jangseung Festival to create precious memories."
