Greenwood Walking Workshop, Bamboo Workshop, Side Events, and More
Offering Eco-Friendly Experiences Using Thinned Trees from Village Forests
Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Lee Sang-cheol) announced that it will operate the ‘GreenWoodWorking Camp’ at Dorimsa Auto Camping Site from November 3 to 5.
This is another attempt by the county to discover and operate various rural tourism contents in the region since being selected for the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs’ regional rural tourism project ‘Nongchon Ae(愛) Ollae’ in 2020.
The GreenWoodWorking Camp offers a choice between a 2-night 3-day experience from November 3 to 5 and a 1-night 2-day experience from November 4 to 5.
The camp features two programs: the GreenWoodWorking Workshop and the Bamboo Workshop.
In the GreenWoodWorking Workshop, participants will have hands-on experience making items ranging from small objects like frying spatulas, hangers, and wooden plates to furniture such as assembled backrest chairs.
The Bamboo Workshop offers experiences making bamboo egg baskets, bamboo woven frames, and Hansan Mosi brooms.
Additionally, various programs are prepared, including freely accessible wood-working tool exhibitions, wooden craft displays, wood play experiences, the Gokseong local meal kit contest, film screenings, and small concerts. There are also side events like board games, allowing the whole family to enjoy together.
The ‘GreenWoodWorking Camp’ held in nature is a paid program, and prior reservation is required for participation.
Applications are accepted from individuals to families, and thanks to support from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and Gokseong-gun, participants can join at a reasonable cost.
The camp will recruit 100 participants on a first-come, first-served basis, and applications can be made through the Naver reservation page of ‘GriGokseong’ until the 31st.
A notable aspect of this camp is that several cooperatives located in Gokseong come together to run the programs collaboratively.
The overall program planning and operation are led by the cooperative GriGokseong and the Wood Power Plant Cooperative, with the Wood Play Research Institute Cooperative and Bamboo Forest Love Cooperative participating as partner organizations.
This program, which combines the strengths of various cooperatives, is gaining attention as a new model of rural tourism that induces a virtuous cycle in the local economy by integrating the main businesses of each cooperative.
Moreover, the local meal kits prepared through collaboration between Gokseong-gun and local restaurants deliver the taste of Gokseong to participants while supporting the revitalization of the local economy.
So far, Gokseong-gun has consistently operated travel products that allow visitors to experience the region’s nature through ‘Seomjingang Trekking’ and ‘Taeansa Forest Trekking,’ achieving great results.
The ‘Dance Meditation Festival in Gokseong’ held in August this year attracted about 150 participants from across the country and received widespread acclaim as a unique rural tourism program.
Following the ‘Dance Meditation Festival in Gokseong,’ the ‘2023 GreenWoodWorking Camp’ continues to create a new rural tourism trend of healing and tourism by combining travel and festivals that utilize the region’s nature, environment, and resources, breaking away from typical rural tourism.
