Gochang-gun 'Dreaming Old Downtown Program' Operation

Gochang-gun, Jeonbuk, operated the “Dreaming Old Downtown” program at the Youth Win-Win Center (Joyang-gwan) as part of the urban regeneration project in the old downtown area.

According to the county on the 25th, “Dreaming Old Downtown” recruited village and local residents in the old downtown area to operate the Youth Win-Win Center (Joyang-gwan) space as a cafe space. Since then, 10 residents are currently receiving practical training in traditional tea education and cafe management.

Composed of a total of 13 sessions, the program is mainly practice-oriented rather than theoretical, resulting in high responsiveness from participating residents.

The Gochang-gun Urban Regeneration (Field) Support Center plans to find an operator for the Youth Win-Win Center (Joyang-gwan) early next year and will begin full-scale operation as soon as remodeling is completed.

The Gochang Old Downtown Urban Regeneration project is transforming the old downtown area of Gochang-eup, Gochang-gun, into a new appearance through urban regeneration.

The area, which had been declining due to population decrease, changes in industrial structure, indiscriminate urban expansion, and aging residential environment, is being revitalized economically, socially, physically, and environmentally through urban regeneration methods that utilize local resources instead of reconstruction or redevelopment.

A county official said, “We will do our best to successfully lead the beginning of revitalization in the old downtown area through practical urban regeneration education projects.”
