30 Chartered Buses to Be Deployed
Yongin Gyeongcheon Railroad Service Increased by 19 Trips
Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 25th that it has prepared emergency transportation measures, including the deployment of 30 charter buses, in anticipation of the strike announced by the Gyeonggi Province Bus Labor Union Council on the 26th.
The Yongin City transportation companies affiliated with the council include five companies such as Gyeongnam Passenger and Daewon Express. A total of 552 buses on 68 routes, including metropolitan and city buses, are expected to participate in the strike. This accounts for 60% of Yongin City's total 255 routes and 921 buses. However, village buses are excluded from the strike and will operate normally.
The city will deploy 30 charter buses mainly in Cheoin-gu and Giheung-gu, where it is difficult to use alternative transportation such as railroads or village buses, on the routes where the strike is expected to start from the first bus on the 26th.
The areas where city bus operations will be suspended are divided into six hubs, and citizens in these areas will be able to use the Yongin Light Rail or Bundang Line, with buses running to major subway stations and Yongin Terminal.
The Yongin Light Rail will also increase its service by 19 trips per day, concentrating vehicles during peak commuting hours from 6 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 7 p.m.
Village buses and taxis have also been requested to operate intensively during peak commuting hours. There are currently 1,852 taxis operating within the region.
Yisang-il, Mayor of Yongin City, urged, "Citizens should pay attention to the Yongin City website and media such as TV to avoid disruptions in daily life, and actively cooperate by carpooling or using alternative transportation such as the subway and light rail."
Information on the routes where charter buses will be deployed can be found on the Yongin City website.
