This time's subway walking course starts at Omokgyo Station on Line 5. You can enjoy the natural scenery while strolling along the well-maintained riverside path following the Anyangcheon Stream. If you get a bit tired, sitting on the benches placed here and there and watching herons and mallards is also enjoyable.
Before the riverside walk, the first place to visit is Omokgyo Jungang Market. Exit from Exit 5 of Omokgyo Station on Line 5, go straight, then enter the alley that appears immediately, and after walking about 400 meters, you will arrive. It is a small traditional alley market, formerly also called Sinjeong Alley Traditional Market. If you haven't eaten yet, stopping by the market to have Sundaeguk (Korean blood sausage soup) is recommended.
The main course starts now. Leaving Omokgyo Jungang Market and walking about 600 meters toward Sinjeonggyo Bridge, you will reach Silgaecheon Ecological Park, a park created on an unused riverside area. It features a small artificial island, a plaza, a performance hall, and an artificial stream flowing around which various waterside plants such as hackberry and elm trees grow, making it a popular walking spot for many people.
The stream visible from Silgaecheon Ecological Park is Anyangcheon Stream. It is a tributary of the Han River and passes through Anyang City in Gyeonggi Province, hence the name Anyangcheon. Within Seoul, it forms the boundary of Yangcheon-gu, Guro-gu, Gangseo-gu, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Geumcheon-gu, and the city of Gwangmyeong in Gyeonggi Province. After walking about 800 meters from Silgaecheon Ecological Park, you will reach Yeonghakjeong, a scenic viewpoint. From here, you can not only view the stream but also get a panoramic view of the Mokdong area in Yangcheon-gu behind it.
Between Yeonghakjeong and the next destination, Mokma Park, there is an embankment path. In spring, cherry blossoms are in full bloom, and in summer, it becomes a shaded trail. Walking along the embankment path and coming out onto the overpass connected to Ewha Mokdong Hospital, you can reach Mokma Neighborhood Park. It is maintained with forested walking trails, acupressure paths, playgrounds, basketball courts, benches, and more. Climbing the stairs visible at the end of the park leads to Mokdonggyo Bridge. This marks the end of today's subway walking course journey.
