Gangbuk-gu Accepting Applications for Talent Scholarship Students from Kkum Namu Kiwoom Scholarship Foundation

Gangbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Soon-hee) announced that it will recruit the 12th Talent Scholarship Students from the 25th to November 14th in cooperation with the Kkum Namu Kium Scholarship Foundation (Chairman Choi Ki-seok).

The Gangbuk-gu Kkum Namu Kium Scholarship Foundation conducts a scholarship program that discovers young children and adolescents with special talents in Gangbuk-gu and supports the costs necessary for talent development. The recruitment fields include a total of six areas: academics, music, art, dance, sports, and theater. Unlike one-time support, the foundation re-evaluates progress annually and continues support until the scholarship students become independent.

This 12th new selection scale has significantly increased from 6 people last year to about 20 people. Existing scholarship students will also be re-evaluated and supported continuously for about 20 people.

Eligibility requires talented students residing in Gangbuk-gu or attending daycare centers, kindergartens, and elementary, middle, or high schools within the district, whose household income is below 100% of the median income standard. The income criteria have been relaxed compared to the previous year, expanding the scholarship support target.

Applicants wishing to apply can download the application form from the news section of the Gangbuk-gu website and submit the application form, talent development plan, recommendation letter from the school principal or the head of the kindergarten/daycare association, portfolio, and income verification documents via email or by visiting the Education Support Division of Gangbuk-gu Office.

The selection process consists of a first document screening and a second on-site evaluation by a talent review committee composed of experts in each field. The final selection results will be individually notified and posted on the Gangbuk-gu website around early January next year. Selected students will receive an annual talent development scholarship of 3 million KRW.

Mayor Lee Soon-hee of Gangbuk-gu said, “The Kkum Namu Kium Scholarship Foundation supports talented students in Gangbuk-gu to freely develop their abilities without being constrained by their environment,” and added, “Our Gangbuk-gu will also do its best to help all children freely showcase their talents and dreams.”
