Seoul City's 'Local Brand' Alley Markets Supported Since Last Year: Sales Analysis of 7 Areas from January to August Shows Jangchungdan-gil Market Sales Increased by 30% Compared to Same Period Last Year, Marking the Most Remarkable Growth
The alley commercial district of Jangchungdan-gil in Jung-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Kim Gil-seong) is seeing a revival in its "sales spark."
According to the Seoul Metropolitan Government, an analysis of sales from January to August this year in seven local brand alley commercial districts supported by the city since 2022 showed that the Jangchungdan-gil district recorded the most remarkable growth, with sales increasing by 30% compared to the same period last year.
In particular, Jangchungdan-gil had the highest sales proportion in autumn throughout the year. This is attributed to the increase in visitors during the fall foliage season, as it is close to Namsan.
The sales growth in Jangchungdan-gil is the result of joint efforts by Jung-gu and the Jangchungdan-gil Local Brand Project Group. The private commercial district development organization and merchants' association worked together to hold seasonal events from early this year, revitalizing the commercial district. Starting with "Enjoy Jangchungdan-gil in Spring!" in April and followed by the unique "Jangchungdan-gil Food Festival" in September (including the lighting ceremony and brand proclamation), word of mouth attracted more customers.
This autumn, on the 27th from 6 PM to 10 PM, the "Jangchung Bulmyeong Camping" will once again ignite the charm of Jangchungdan-gil. Set against the backdrop of the vividly colored Namsan, there will be an urban-style unique campsite, Jangchung Cinema, street playroom, treasure hunt, Jangchung stationery store, and other attractive programs. Visitors can enjoy performances, movies, food, and nostalgic experiences in cozy seats decorated with camping gear and lights.
Feel like going on an autumn picnic and try the "Treasure Hunt." The goal is to visit various spots along Jangchungdan-gil and find the "Jangstar" stores marked as mission points. Taking a certification photo at the store and printing it at the Instagram upload photo booth will also earn you gift certificates.
To ensure that customers with young children, university students, and office workers can stay longer and more comfortably, board games, hammocks, and photo zones have also been prepared.
The highlight of the camping is probably the songs sung around the "campfire." When the atmosphere at the Jangchungdan-gil campsite reaches its peak, an acoustic guitar performance will be held, offering an "emotional and sentimental" melody.
Kim Gil-seong, Mayor of Jung-gu, said, "The alley commercial districts must thrive to invigorate the local economy," adding, "The spark ignited in Jangchungdan-gil will lead to commercial district growth and increased sales, and the district office will continuously monitor and support to ensure that customers keep coming."
