Prosecutors Raid Presidential Archives Over Alleged Statistical Manipulation by Moon Administration

The Criminal Division 4 of Daejeon District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Song Bong-jun) sent prosecutors and investigators to the Presidential Archives in Sejong City on the 20th to review documents related to the Blue House at the time, in connection with the statistical manipulation allegations requested for investigation by the Board of Audit and Inspection.

The prosecution is reportedly conducting the search and seizure by selectively reviewing relevant materials among the presidential records from that period.

The Board of Audit and Inspection believes that the Blue House (Presidential Secretariat) and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport exerted undue influence at least 94 times from 2017 to 2021 on the compilation of statistics by the Korea Real Estate Board, causing manipulation of statistical figures.

The investigation request by the Board of Audit and Inspection includes all four former policy chiefs of the previous administration (Jang Ha-sung, Kim Soo-hyun, Kim Sang-jo, and Lee Ho-seung).

Also under investigation are former Economic Chief Hong Jang-pyo, former Job Chief Hwang Deok-soon, former Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Kim Hyun-mi, former Statistics Korea Commissioner Kang Shin-wook, former 1st Vice Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Yoon Sung-won, and former Korea Real Estate Board Presidents Kim Hak-gyu and Son Tae-rak.
