Gwangju Nam-gu Strengthens Large-Scale Fire Response Training at Performance Venue on the 23rd

The Safe Korea Drill is an exercise regularly conducted every year under the supervision of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, jointly involving central government ministries, local governments, fire departments, and related agencies.

According to Nam-gu on the 20th, the 2023 Disaster Response Safe Korea Drill will take place on the 26th at 2 p.m. at the Gossaum Nori Transmission Education Center in Chilseok-dong.

This is a simulated drill preparing for a fire situation at a performance venue, involving about 300 participants from related organizations such as the Southern Fire Station, Southern Police Station, and Korea Electric Power Corporation.

The goal of this drill is to quickly manage the scene in a chaotic situation caused by a fire at a performance venue to minimize casualties.

In particular, since performance venues are densely crowded places where many people gather, a fire can cause primary casualties and secondary damages such as safety accidents during evacuation, making the on-site response capabilities of local governments and related agencies extremely important.

Accordingly, Nam-gu will conduct a realistic drill at the Gossaum Nori Transmission Education Center based on a simulated fire scenario.

The drill scenario begins with a fire caused by an electrical short circuit in the 'Go' storage room on the first floor of the Gossaum Nori Transmission Center, where hundreds of residents are visiting the facility, spreading throughout the entire first and second floors of the building.

Following this, many casualties occur among the second-floor visitors who realize the fire late, and during evacuation in the dark caused by a power outage in the 3D video experience room, safety accidents also occur among the visitors watching the video in darkness.

The practical drill is expected to last about 1 hour and 30 minutes, covering everything from rescue operations to fire site management and recovery.

A Nam-gu official stated, "We will thoroughly inspect the entire process from initial disaster site response to management and recovery to ensure flawless and perfect response at large-scale fire scenes."
