Need to Develop Discrimination Skills

Kim Hyo-jae, the newly appointed chairman of the Korea Press Foundation, emphasized in his inaugural remarks that the foundation will fulfill its role as a platform to enhance media literacy and combat fake news.

At the inauguration ceremony held on the 20th at the Korea Press Center in Jung-gu, Seoul, Chairman Kim stated, "(Fake news) cannot be chased down and picked out like catching flies, nor is it feasible. The role of the Press Foundation in the digital age is to help the public develop the ability to distinguish and navigate through it themselves," proposing a "platform to enhance media literacy" as a solution.

Chairman Kim added that he will form a task force (TF) directly under the chairman to build the platform and will communicate with schools, the media industry, the National Assembly, and various institutions.

Regarding the execution of government advertisements managed by the Press Foundation, he expressed a commitment to transparency, stating, "There must be no slightest deviation, prejudice, or preconception in the execution."

Chairman Kim graduated from the Department of Sociology at Korea University, worked as a reporter and editorial writer at Chosun Ilbo, served as a member of the 18th National Assembly, and was the Chief Presidential Secretary for Political Affairs during the Lee Myung-bak administration. At the Korea Communications Commission, he served as a standing commissioner and vice chairman, and acted as the interim chairman following the dismissal of Chairman Han Sang-hyuk.
