On the 19th, Baealdo Holds Midterm Report Meeting on Media Facade Installation
The tourism slogan of Gwangyang, "Gwangyang Trip that Shines Day and Night," is being realized, and the blueprint for Baealdo and Mangdeok Port area to become the tourism hub of the southern coast's southern-central region is becoming visible.
On the 19th, Gwangyang City in Jeollanam-do announced that it held a mid-term report meeting on the detailed design for the installation of the Baealdo media facade at the Disaster Safety Situation Room.
Presided over by Mayor Jeong In-hwa, the report meeting was attended by about 20 people including heads of related departments and various experts, proceeding with project reports, suggestions, and Q&A sessions.
This project, part of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's "Inter-local Cooperation New Deal Project," aims to create a differentiated media art themed "A Night Counting Stars" on Baealdo to transform it into a stay-type tourism hub.
Inspired by the total 2,898 characters of Yoon Dong-ju's handwritten manuscript "Sky, Wind, Stars, and Poetry," the project titled "Baealdo, the Island Where 2,898 Stars Rest" is designed with five themes and sixteen contents: Star Road, Wind Road, Sky Forest Road, Friendship Road, and Memory Road.
"Star Road" depicts imaginary images drawn through Yoon Dong-ju's poetry using projection mapping and LED lighting, while "Wind Road" symbolizes the wind with kinetic sculptures, the shimmering sea, and clusters of stars sparkling on the waves.
"Sky Forest Road" installs poetry sculptures, interactive elements, and star-shaped chairs where visitors can listen to poetry, and "Friendship Road" features the poet's tree, media art telling the story of Dong-ju and Byeong-uk, and the cheering of starlight with countless falling stars.
"Memory Road" creates spaces using photoluminescent stones that absorb sunlight and emit light by themselves, a graffiti wall where visitors can leave impressions, and a starlight island floating on the water.
Mayor Jeong In-hwa of Gwangyang said, "The Seomjingang area, which uniquely preserves Yoon Dong-ju's handwritten manuscript, is a historical space with a precious story unlike anywhere else in the world and a key tourism hub in the southern-central region of the southern coast," adding, "Please thoroughly review the meaningful opinions raised at this mid-term report meeting and do your best to reflect them in the final stage."
Meanwhile, Gwangyang City plans to finalize the detailed design for the installation of the Baealdo media facade within this year and begin construction early next year.
