Strengthening Disinfection Support and Surveillance Activities to Prevent Virus Transmission During Festival Period
On the 20th, Hampyeong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that it will carry out livestock disease prevention activities to preemptively block the potential influx of disease contaminants into livestock farms due to the increase in transient population such as tourists during the Korea Chrysanthemum Festival.
To this end, the county will cooperate with the joint quarantine team to disinfect the areas around the festival venue and major national highways to block highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI) and other malignant livestock infectious diseases, and strengthen clinical surveillance of livestock farms near the festival site.
In addition, livestock farmers visiting the festival venue will be encouraged through SMS and other promotions to disinfect their livestock vehicles at the designated disinfection facilities before returning home.
County Governor Lee Sang-ik said, “If malignant livestock infectious diseases occur, they can cause significant damage not only to farms but also to the entire industry,” and added, “We urge livestock farmers to thoroughly comply with meticulous disinfection and quarantine rules to prevent any damage.”
Meanwhile, Hampyeong-gun has designated the period from October, when the risk of livestock diseases such as highly pathogenic avian influenza is high, until February next year as a special quarantine period, operating a 24-hour quarantine situation room, and has raised the AI crisis alert level to the ‘Caution’ stage, entering an emergency quarantine posture.
