Bangulnaegil Becomes Mapo-gu's First Alley-Shaped Shopping District

Mapo-gu (District Mayor Park Gang-su) has registered the shops located between 53 and 80 Bangulnae-ro in Mangwon 2-dong as Mapo-gu's first alley-type shopping district.

An alley-type shopping district refers to a shopping area registered under the Ordinance on the Designation and Activation Support of Alley-type Shopping Districts in Mapo-gu, based on the Special Act for the Promotion of Traditional Markets and Shopping Districts. It is defined as a place within an area of 2,000㎡ or less where 30 or more small business operators run stores regardless of industry type.

In July this year, Mapo-gu amended part of the ordinance to remove the regulation requiring consent from more than half of the land and building owners within the application area when applying for alley-type shopping district registration.

Through this, the district eased registration conditions and reduced unnecessary administrative procedures, laying the foundation for more small business owners in alleys to benefit.

With this alley-type shopping district registration, Mapo-gu announced that a total of 77 stores located on Bangulnae-gil (Bangulnae-ro 53?80) will be able to participate in various support projects led by the central government and Seoul City, such as ▲ Market Management Package Support Project ▲ Local Product Exhibitions ▲ Specialized Market Development ▲ Youth Mall Revitalization Project, just like existing traditional markets and shopping districts.

It is also expected that the stores in the Bangulnae-gil alley-type shopping district will enjoy a dual benefit by improving their facilities and management environment while increasing customer accessibility and sales through registration with the Onnuri Gift Certificate system.

Mapo-gu plans to actively cooperate with the local community to strengthen the competitiveness of small business owners in the area by sequentially discovering additional shopping districts eligible for alley-type shopping district registration in the future.

Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, “We expect that the registration of the ‘Bangulnae-gil Alley-type Shopping District’ will breathe new life into the commercial area. Mapo-gu will strive to revitalize the local economy by creating an institutional foundation that can generate opportunities for a new leap forward along with the development of the local commercial district.”
