The Anti-Corruption Investigation Division 3 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Kim Yong-sik) indicted Lee without detention on charges of suborning perjury on the same day. This came four days after he was indicted without detention on the 12th over allegations of preferential treatment in the Baekhyeon-dong development project.
According to the prosecution, Lee is accused of repeatedly calling Kim Jin-sung, former secretary to ex-Seongnam Mayor Kim Byung-ryang, between December 22 and 24, 2018, requesting him to commit perjury in the trial concerning Lee's alleged false statement under the Public Official Election Act related to the 'impersonation of a prosecutor' incident.
As a result, Kim committed perjury favorable to Lee during the trial on February 14, 2019, and Lee was acquitted by the Supreme Court on October 24 of the following year. The prosecution transferred the Ssangbangwool Group's North Korea remittance suspicion case back to the Suwon District Prosecutors' Office, which had previously been handling the investigation.
