The December 12 military coup, led by Chun Doo-hwan, Roh Tae-woo, and the Hanahoe, a secret military organization within the armed forces, has been made into a film that will meet audiences next month.

On the 16th, Plus M Entertainment announced that the film Seoul Spring (director Kim Seong-su), starring actors Hwang Jung-min, Jung Woo-sung, and Lee Sung-min, will be released on November 22.

Seoul Spring, the first Korean film to be inspired by the December 12 military coup, depicts the tense nine hours on December 12, 1979, in Seoul, the capital, when the new military forces attempted a rebellion.

Actor Hwang Jung-min plays Jeon Du-gwang, a key figure in the new military faction, while Jung Woo-sung takes on the role of Lee Tae-shin, the Capital Security Commander who was devoted to military discipline. Lee Sung-min portrays Chief of Staff Jung Sang-ho. Park Hae-joon plays Roh Tae-geon, commander of the 9th Division, and Kim Sung-kyun acts as Military Police Chief Kim Jun-yeop.

The film is directed by Kim Seong-su, who also directed Beat (1997) and Asura (2016), and produced by Hive Media Corp, the production company behind Secret Zoo (2020).
