A Venue for Communication and Unity Among Residents with 16 Dong Athletes and Over 3,000 Cheerleaders... The Tournament Promotion Committee Composed of Residents Collaborated from the Preparation Stage Including Selection of Sports Events
On the 14th, the '2023 Jungnang-gu Residents Unity Sports Festival' was held at the Jungnang-gu Public Lawn Stadium in Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi). Returning after 15 years, the 'Jungnang-gu Residents Unity Sports Festival' was a place of communication and harmony, with about 3,000 participants including athletes and cheering squads from 16 neighborhoods.
Hosted by the Jungnang-gu Sports Council (Chairman Seo Yong-gi), this sports festival was jointly created with the participation of the residents' organizing committee from the preparation stage, carefully exchanging and coordinating detailed matters such as the selection of game events. The committee members unanimously described it as "a true neighborhood festival where the residents are the main characters, just as the name suggests."
The sports festival, which began with a distinctive neighborhood entrance parade, was filled with programs that everyone could enjoy together, reflecting the purpose of avoiding competition and creating a place for communication and harmony among residents. In particular, group jump rope, balloon popping, and cooperative bounce?a game where players hold a large cloth and raise a large ball high?received great responses.
Side events were also well organized. Since families with children participated, a play zone for children was set up, offering various activities such as face painting, balloon art, ttakji (Korean paper tile) flipping, and dalgona candy making.
Additionally, a signboard for residents' cheering messages and a photo zone to capture memories were prepared, and interviews with residents conducted by reporters on-site were broadcast live on the big screen, providing lively entertainment.
The district emphasized that safety management was the top priority in this large-scale event. A total of about 200 personnel, including emergency medical staff, a comprehensive control room, and dedicated personnel, were deployed to meticulously ensure safety. Twenty-four fire extinguishers were placed throughout the venue, and fire trucks were on standby throughout the event to thoroughly prepare for any possible fire or safety accidents.
Ryu Gyeong-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, "The Unity Sports Festival is significant not only because it was held again after 15 years, but also because the residents created and enjoyed it together from the preparation process to the day of the event. I hope it became a time to cherish each other, feel the importance of the community, and naturally raise the pride and self-esteem of Jungnang-gu residents."
