Resident Autonomy Expo Held on 17-18th: Interactive Exhibition to Showcase Outstanding Resident Autonomy Activities to Citizens
Geumcheon-gu (District Mayor Yoo Seong-hoon) announced that it will hold a Resident Autonomy Expo at the district office plaza on the 17th and 18th to inform residents of the achievements of the Resident Autonomy Association activities.
The Resident Autonomy Expo is the first event of its kind held in Seoul, taking place in Geumcheon-gu. It will be conducted under the theme "Gather, Share, and Progress: Resident Autonomy in Geumcheon."
On the 17th, commendations will first be presented to those who have contributed to the development of resident autonomy. Following this, from 3 p.m., a program competition will open at the community centers. Students from programs such as belly dance, Korean traditional dance, folk song and janggu drum, and Nanta, operated by the community centers of 10 neighborhoods, will form teams to showcase their skills on stage.
Throughout the district office plaza, booths promoting excellent cases of resident autonomy activities and community center programs will be operated. Visitors to the promotional booths on the first day can learn about projects promoted by the community centers, such as village broadcasting stations, village festivals, and collection activities for expired medicines, as well as outstanding cases like special vacation programs and summer vacation experiential learning.
Additionally, visitors can experience programs operated by the community centers, including calligraphy, brush lettering, sock yarn crafts, and sujichim (acupuncture with needles).
On the 18th at 11 a.m., videos showcasing the main activities of the resident autonomy associations by neighborhood will be screened. From 2 p.m., congratulatory performances prepared by each neighborhood’s community center will be held.
On the second day, the promotional booths will exhibit the achievements of the joint project "Resident Activities for Waste Reduction and Carbon Neutrality," conducted by the resident autonomy associations of the 10 neighborhoods. Programs that residents can directly experience will also be offered, such as food waste composting demonstrations and detergent sharing, climate crisis quizzes, making pumice soap, creating flowerpots from upcycled items, and waste separation.
Meanwhile, Geumcheon-gu is recruiting the 4th term members as it marks the 7th year of the resident autonomy association project this year. The district plans to establish the "Geumcheon-type Resident Autonomy Association Activation Policy" by this year and fully implement it starting in 2024.
Yoo Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, "The Resident Autonomy Expo is the first opportunity to showcase the various resident autonomy activities promoted in each neighborhood to the residents, so I am very excited," and added, "We hope many residents will participate in the diverse exhibitions, performances, and experiential activities."
