Pukyong National University and Busan National University Team Win Grand Prize at the Global Youth Climate Hope Challenge

A student team from Pukyong National University and Pusan National University won the grand prize in the ‘Global Youth Climate Hope Challenge’ hosted by Busan City.

The team consisting of Pukyong National University students Kim Do-hoon, Park Mi-so, Park Yeon-ha, and Pusan National University students Park Min-gi and Kim Hyun-jin received the highest evaluation among 14 teams from 12 countries that advanced to the finals, securing the grand prize.

The Pukyong National University and Pusan National University student team presented an eco-friendly initiative for universities in the Busan area called ‘Green Campus: Y-Eco Friend Card,’ which was praised for the concreteness of its eco-friendly ideas and feasibility, aligning well with university students who will lead future generations.

This idea was inspired by Dongbaekjeon, a local currency in Busan, proposing an ‘Eco Friend Card.’ It gained positive responses by designing benefits linked to the Eco Friend Card for universities that practiced climate action aiming to greenify campuses in the Busan region.

With this grand prize, the Pukyong National University and Pusan National University student team received a prize money of 3 million won and also earned the opportunity to participate in the General Assembly of the International Bureau of Expositions (BIE) held in Paris on November 28, where the host city for the 2030 Expo will be selected.

The challenge was held recently at the Green Narae Hotel in Haeundae as part of the 10th International Conference event to attract the 2030 Busan World Expo.

The ‘Global Youth Climate Hope Challenge’ started with a launch ceremony on August 26 under the theme ‘Nature and Sustainable Life (Climate Change Response).’ The event featured global youth teams from 12 countries and 14 teams, who competed over the past three weeks through discussions and presentations to determine the final winners.
