A man in his 30s who followed an unknown woman to her home, strangled her, and attempted sexual assault has been indicted while in custody.
On the 12th, the Women and Children Crime Investigation Division of the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Jeong Hyeon-seung) announced that the day before, they had indicted a man in his 30s, identified as Mr. A, on charges of attempted rape and trespassing.
Mr. A is accused of attempting to sexually assault a woman in her 20s in front of the entrance door on the 4th floor of a house in Mapo-gu, Seoul, at around 2:50 a.m. on the 18th of last month. He spotted the woman returning home, followed her to her doorstep, strangled her, and pulled down her pants, committing the crime. It was found that a friend was at the victim’s home, and the sexual assault was only attempted.
The police responded to a report that "a man was following" and arrived at the scene. After analyzing CCTV footage, they arrested Mr. A within four hours. The Mapo Police Station in Seoul transferred Mr. A to the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office on the 26th of last month.
A prosecution official stated, "Considering that the suspect attempted sexual assault on a victim he did not know in the early morning hours, we will do our best to maintain the prosecution so that a sentence commensurate with the crime can be imposed."
