Amid the decline in the number of kindergarten classes due to low birth rates, no public kindergarten teachers will be recruited in Seoul next year.
The competition rate for the 2024 appointment exam for public kindergarten, elementary, and special school teachers in Seoul has dropped to less than half compared to this year as a result.

On the 12th, the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education announced that 643 applicants applied for 158 positions in the 2024 public (national and private) kindergarten, elementary, and special school teacher candidate selection competitive exam, showing an average competition rate of 4.07 to 1.
The competition rate next year fell to less than half of this year's rate (8.67 to 1). The biggest reason for the decline in competition rate is that the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education will not recruit any kindergarten teachers in Seoul next year.
This year, 10 kindergarten teachers were recruited with 682 applicants, recording a competition rate of 68.2 to 1. Last year, 42 positions were available with 1,566 applicants, showing a competition rate of 37.29 to 1. However, with no kindergarten teachers being recruited next year, the total number of applicants decreased, leading to a drop in the competition rate.

The competition rates for each level in 2024 are 4.35 to 1 for elementary schools, 4.5 to 1 for special schools (kindergarten), and 3.37 to 1 for special schools (elementary), showing a slight decline compared to the previous year.
Over the past five years, the number of public kindergarten, elementary, and special school (kindergarten and elementary) teacher recruits has been decreasing annually: 617 in 2020, 464 in 2021, 304 in 2022, 166 in 2023, and 158 in 2024.
