The Seoul Central District Court announced that the Baekhyeon-dong case against Lee, indicted by the prosecution on the 12th, has been assigned to the Criminal Division 33 (Chief Judge Kim Dong-hyun). On the same day, the prosecution requested the court to consolidate the Baekhyeon-dong preferential treatment suspicion case with the Daejang-dong and Wirye cases while indicting Lee without detention.
The Criminal Division 33, specializing in corruption cases, is currently handling the Daejang-dong and Wirye New Town development corruption and Seongnam FC sponsorship fund suspicion cases against Lee, which were indicted in March.
The court explained that both cases occurred during Lee’s tenure as mayor of Seongnam, with similar criminal facts involving channeling development profits to developers or brokers, and the defendant being the same person.
Lee is accused of granting preferential treatment to private developers during the Baekhyeon-dong development project in Bundang-gu from April 2014 to March 2018 while serving as mayor of Seongnam, enabling them to monopolize profits of 135.6 billion KRW and causing at least 20 billion KRW in damages to the Seongnam Urban Development Corporation, which was excluded from the project.
