Subway Line 1 Banghak Station Building to Be Newly Renovated

New Southern Station Building at Banghak Station (Exit 4 Opening), Escalators Installed at Exits 1 and 2... Project Confirmed by Korea Railroad Corporation's Investment Review and Board Resolution

Subway Line 1 Banghak Station Building to Be Newly Renovated

Banghak Station on Line 1 is being reborn as a convenient and comfortable space.

Dobong-gu (Mayor Oh Eon-seok) announced that the reconstruction of the aging Banghak Station building will be actively promoted.

Banghak Station building, constructed in June 1987, is an old facility that has caused urban aesthetic issues due to its discordance with the surrounding landscape, and has drawn complaints from subway users due to the lack of mobility convenience facilities such as escalators. Additionally, problems regarding movement flow have been continuously raised, including facilities that do not consider the convenience of transportation-vulnerable people and the absence of an exit toward Noksan Church.

To improve this, Dobong-gu held multiple meetings with related organizations such as the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and Korail to improve the environment of Banghak Station. As a result, a major plan for the reconstruction of the southern station building of Banghak Station, including the opening of Exit 4 and the installation of escalators at Exits 1 and 2, was derived.

Subsequently, Korea Railroad Corporation finalized the agreed reconstruction plan for Banghak Station through investment review and board resolution last September, and plans to proceed with a design competition this year aiming for completion in 2029.

An official from the district stated, “To ensure the successful reconstruction of Banghak Station, the installation of escalators at Nokcheon Station, and the prompt promotion of the Ui~Banghak light rail project, we will continue to actively consult with related organizations such as the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Seoul City, Korail, and Seoul Metro.”

Oh Eon-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, said, “The promotion of the reconstruction of Banghak Station, a long-cherished wish of local residents, is expected to greatly improve the convenience of using Banghak Station,” and added, “We will continue to make active efforts so that residents can use public transportation more conveniently and safely.”
