Mayor Lee Gang-deok of Pohang emphasized his earnest commitment to the citizens by dedicating all efforts to the sustainable development of the city and preparation for the future.

On the 12th, Pohang City held an expanded executive meeting for October in the city hall's main conference room to share current issues such as key domestic and international trends and promotion strategies of core new growth industries, including the biohealth industry and digital convergence industry.
During the meeting, there was a consensus that establishing a research-oriented medical school and a digital innovation hub, which lead global innovation based on Pohang’s unique advantages such as differentiated competitiveness through innovative R&D infrastructure, is absolutely necessary.
Mayor Lee Gang-deok particularly emphasized that fostering physician-scientists through the establishment of a POSTECH research-oriented medical school and smart hospital, as well as creating a bio cluster, are key policies not only to secure competitiveness in South Korea’s future high value-added biohealth industry but also to promote balanced regional development.
He also ordered meticulous attention and thorough efforts to expand high-quality cultural performances such as operas for the citizens, and to maintain local roads and coastal trails, focusing on the happiness and convenience of the citizens.
Furthermore, he stressed that the foremost virtue of public officials is integrity, urging a renewal of the atmosphere to create a trustworthy public service culture, and repeatedly requested speeding up fundamental measures to protect citizen safety and minimize damages.
The mayor stated, “With an earnest heart for the citizens, I ask you to do your best in discovering policy tasks and securing budgets for the city’s future and sustainable development,” and emphasized, “Let us continuously devise ways to enhance the city’s capabilities and dignity, create jobs for the citizens, and revitalize the local economy.”
